UCG Research Project

The UCG Research Project studies Underground Coal Gasification (UCG), a process that converts deep coal seams into fuel by injecting steam and oxygen underground, creating a controlled combustion. This method allows access to coal that is otherwise difficult to mine, producing synthetic gases like hydrogen and carbon monoxide that can be used for energy. The project aims to understand and improve the efficiency, safety, and environmental impact of UCG technology, potentially providing a cleaner and more accessible energy source while managing underground risks and minimizing surface disruption.
