UCG Pilot Projects
UCG (Underground Coal Gasification) Pilot Projects are experimental efforts to convert underground coal deposits directly into usable gas without surface mining. This involves drilling wells into underground coal seams, then igniting and injecting gases to produce a synthetic gas mixture, mainly consisting of hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The process allows for the extraction of energy from coal that remains underground, reducing surface environmental impact. Pilot projects test the technical feasibility, safety, and environmental effects before potential large-scale implementation, helping to explore cleaner and more efficient ways to harness coal resources.
