The territory was named after the Ubangi and Shari rivers. It was part of French Equatorial Africa, administered mainly for resource extraction and trade. In 1960, Ubangi-Shari gained independence and became the Central African Republic. Its history includes colonial influence, efforts for self-rule, and challenges post-independence, such as political instability and conflicts, shaping its modern identity.
