U.S. Selective Service System
The U.S. Selective Service System is a government agency responsible for maintaining a list of eligible men aged 18 to 25 who could be drafted into military service if needed during a national emergency. Registration is required by law, ensuring the government can quickly identify potential draftees. While the U.S. currently relies on an all-volunteer military, the system serves as a preparedness measure, enabling a rapid mobilization of resources if a draft becomes necessary. Women are not currently required to register, and registration does not mean active conscription.
