The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is an intergovernmental body within the UN that promotes and protects human rights worldwide. Established in 2006, it comprises 47 member countries, which are elected by the UN General Assembly. The Council addresses human rights violations, provides a platform for dialogue, and fosters cooperation among nations. It conducts reviews of the human rights records of member states and can issue recommendations. The UNHRC also works with various stakeholders, including NGOs, to raise awareness and advocate for the rights and dignity of individuals globally.
