Typhoid vaccine

The typhoid vaccine helps protect you from typhoid fever, a serious illness caused by ingesting food or water contaminated with the bacteria Salmonella typhi. The vaccine stimulates your immune system to recognize and fight the bacteria if encountered later. There are two types: an injection given once, and a oral dose taken in capsules over several days. While the vaccine reduces your risk, it doesn’t guarantee full protection, so it's important to practice good hygiene and safe food and water habits, especially when traveling to areas where typhoid is common.
