Type 1 (HSV-1)

Type 1 herpes simplex virus (HSV-1) is a common virus primarily causing oral herpes, leading to cold sores or fever blisters around the mouth. It spreads mainly through saliva or close contact with an infected person. After initial infection, the virus remains dormant in nerve cells and can reactivate periodically, especially during stress or illness. While it is most known for cold sores, HSV-1 can occasionally cause genital herpes. The virus is very common worldwide, and most people carry it without symptoms. There is no cure, but antiviral medications can help manage outbreaks and reduce transmission.
