Turtle Doves

Turtle doves are small, gentle birds known for their soft, melodic cooing. They belong to the dove family and are often associated with love and peace. Originally found across Europe, North Africa, and parts of Asia, they prefer open woodlands, shrublands, and farmland. Their name comes from the old term "turtle," referring to their turtle-like cooing sounds. Turtle doves feed mainly on seeds, grains, and occasionally small berries. Recognizable by their slender bodies and graceful flight, they play a vital role in ecosystems and are also popular in cultural symbols, such as the Christmas song "The Twelve Days of Christmas."
