Turbofans

A turbofan engine is a type of jet engine that generates thrust by combining a large fan at the front with a core engine. Air first flows into the fan, with some bypassing around the core, producing most of the thrust in high-bypass turbofans used on commercial airplanes. Inside the core, fuel combustion powers turbines that drive the fan and compress incoming air, creating a continuous airflow and efficient thrust. This design balances fuel efficiency, noise reduction, and power, making turbofans ideal for long-distance travel. Essentially, they work like powerful fans that propel aircraft by efficient airflow management.
