Tunnel thruster

A tunnel thruster is a type of propeller mounted in a dedicated tunnel or tube built into a boat or ship's hull, usually near the bow or stern. Its primary purpose is to provide lateral (sideways) movement, which helps with precise maneuvering, docking, and station-keeping, especially in tight spaces. When activated, the thruster pushes water through the tunnel, generating lateral thrust without needing to move the entire vessel. This allows for better control and positioning, especially in challenging conditions or confined areas, enhancing operational safety and efficiency.
