Tunisia (2011 revolution)

The 2011 Tunisian Revolution was a popular uprising against unemployment, corruption, and authoritarian rule under President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. Sparked by the self-immolation of Mohamed Bouazizi, a street vendor, protests spread nationwide, demanding political reform and greater freedom. Faced with mounting pressure and mass demonstrations, Ben Ali resigned and fled the country. This event marked the beginning of the Arab Spring, inspiring similar protests across the Middle East and North Africa, and led to Tunisia’s transition toward a democratic government, though the country still faces economic and political challenges.
