Tungabhadra River

The Tungabhadra River is a major waterway in southern India, formed by the confluence of the Tungabhadra and Lorda rivers. Originating from the Koodli region in the Western Ghats, it flows eastward across the states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, spanning approximately 531 kilometers. The river is vital for agriculture, drinking water, and hydroelectric power, notably supporting the Tungabhadra Dam near Hospet. It also passes through historic towns like Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Tungabhadra plays a key role in the region’s ecosystem and local economy.
