Tuned Mass Dampers

A Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) is a device installed in buildings or structures to reduce vibrations caused by forces like wind or earthquakes. It consists of a large mass mounted on springs and shock absorbers, carefully tuned to oscillate at the same frequency as the building. When vibrations occur, the TMD moves in opposition, absorbing and dispersing the energy. This helps stabilize the structure, improve comfort, and protect it from damage during dynamic events, without significantly affecting its overall design or function.
