Tumor Node Metastasis (TNM)
The TNM system is a way doctors describe the size and spread of cancer. “T” indicates the tumor’s size and whether it has grown into nearby tissues. “N” shows if the cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes, which are small immune system glands. “M” reveals if the cancer has spread (metastasized) to other parts of the body. This standardized method helps determine the cancer’s stage, guiding treatment options and predicting outcomes. Essentially, TNM provides a clear picture of the cancer’s extent, allowing for precise planning and communication among healthcare teams.
