Tumor necrosis factor

Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) is a protein produced by immune cells that plays a key role in managing inflammation and fighting infections. It helps coordinate the immune response by signaling other cells to attack pathogens or damaged tissues. While TNF is essential for defense, excessive or uncontrolled production can lead to chronic inflammation and contribute to diseases like rheumatoid arthritis or inflammatory bowel disease. Therefore, controlling TNF activity is often a strategy in treating certain inflammatory conditions.
