Tumor Lysis Syndrome Management
Tumor Lysis Syndrome (TLS) occurs when cancer cells break down rapidly, releasing harmful substances into the bloodstream. Management involves preventing and treating the complications of TLS, particularly in patients undergoing cancer treatment. This includes maintaining hydration to help the kidneys flush out toxins, monitoring blood levels of electrolytes (like potassium and phosphorus), and using medications to lower these levels if they become too high. In severe cases, dialysis may be needed to support kidney function. Proper management is crucial to prevent serious health issues related to TLS.
