Tulving's Theory of Memory
Tulving's Theory of Memory proposes that our memory consists of different systems: episodic memory, which records personal experiences and specific events, and semantic memory, which stores general knowledge and facts. These systems operate differently; episodic memory allows us to mentally revisit past experiences, while semantic memory provides us with understanding about the world. Tulving emphasized that these distinctions help explain how we encode, store, and retrieve information, highlighting the complexity of human memory and its specialized functions.
