Tulving's model of memory
Tulving's model of memory divides it into three main types: episodic, semantic, and procedural. Episodic memory involves recalling specific personal experiences, like a birthday party. Semantic memory encompasses general knowledge and facts, such as knowing the capital of a country. Procedural memory is about knowing how to do things, like riding a bike or tying shoelaces. These types operate somewhat independently but work together to help us understand, learn, and navigate our world. Tulving's model emphasizes that remembering personal events (episodic) is different from general knowledge (semantic), each stored and retrieved through distinct processes.
