Tulving Model of Memory

Tulving's Model of Memory distinguishes two primary types: episodic and semantic. Episodic memory involves personally experienced events and specific moments in time, like your last birthday. Semantic memory stores general knowledge, facts, and concepts, such as knowing the capital of a country. These two types work together but are separate systems in the brain. Tulving proposed that episodic memory allows you to mentally relive past experiences, while semantic memory provides a foundation of facts and understanding. This model helps explain how we remember personal experiences differently from abstract knowledge.
