Tuberous sclerosis complex
Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a genetic disorder caused by mutations in specific genes that lead to the growth of benign tumors in various organs, including the brain, skin, kidneys, and heart. These tumors can interfere with normal function and may cause symptoms such as seizures, developmental delays, skin abnormalities, and organ issues. TSC is inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern, meaning only one copy of the altered gene can cause the disorder. While there’s no cure, treatments focus on managing symptoms and preventing complications, with many individuals leading fulfilling lives with proper medical care.
