Tuberculin Test

The Tuberculin Test, also known as the Mantoux test, is a medical test used to determine if a person has been exposed to the bacteria that cause tuberculosis (TB). A small amount of tuberculin, a protein derived from the bacteria, is injected just under the skin, usually on the forearm. After 48 to 72 hours, a healthcare professional checks the injection site for a reaction, such as swelling or redness. A positive result indicates possible exposure to TB, further testing may be needed to confirm active infection. It’s an important tool for TB screening and prevention.
