TUBB (Beta-tubulin)
TUBB, or beta-tubulin, is a protein that forms part of microtubules—tiny structures within cells that act like scaffolding and highways. These microtubules help maintain cell shape, enable movement, and are crucial during cell division when new cells are made. Beta-tubulin combines with alpha-tubulin to build these microtubules, ensuring cells function properly. Because of its essential role, TUBB is vital for healthy cell activity and development, and it is also a target for certain drugs used to treat cancer by disrupting cancer cell growth.
