Tsunami Watch

A Tsunami Watch is an alert issued by authorities indicating that a tsunami warning might be necessary in the near future due to a nearby oceanic disturbance, such as an earthquake or undersea landslide. During a watch, people in affected areas should stay alert, monitor official updates, and prepare to take action if a tsunami warning is issued. It does not mean a tsunami will occur, but conditions could potentially generate one. This period allows communities to stay vigilant and ready to respond quickly if a tsunami warning is confirmed.
