TSE
TSE, or Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy, is a rare brain disease caused by abnormal proteins called prions. These prions damage the brain tissue, leading to symptoms like memory loss, personality changes, and coordination problems. TSEs include conditions such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in humans and mad cow disease in cattle. They are contagious through infected tissues or contaminated products, and there’s no effective treatment once symptoms appear. The disease progresses rapidly and is fatal. Understanding TSEs helps in preventing their spread and ensuring food and medical safety.
