Truth commissions

Truth commissions are official, temporary bodies established by governments or organizations to uncover and acknowledge the facts about past human rights abuses or conflicts. Their goal is to promote accountability, foster reconciliation, and help societies heal by collecting testimonies, documenting abuses, and providing a complete account of what happened. Unlike courts, they don’t typically impose criminal penalties but aim to promote truth, understanding, and closure for victims and communities affected by violence or injustice.
