Trunyan
Trunyan is a traditional Balinese village known for its unique funeral practices. Unlike typical cremations, bodies are placed in bamboo caskets and laid on the ground within a sacred cemetery called the Trunyan cemetery. Remarkably, the bodies decompose naturally without emitting a foul smell, thanks to a special aromatic tree called the fragrant bamboo or "Toona sureni" that surrounds the cemetery, which neutralizes odors. This method reflects local beliefs about respecting the dead and maintaining harmony with nature, creating a peaceful and respectful resting place that stands out for its natural approach to funerary traditions.
