trotting

Trotting is a gait used by horses where they move their legs in diagonal pairs—meaning the front right and back left legs move together, followed by the front left and back right. This movement creates a steady, rhythmic diagonal rhythm, often described as a two-beat gait. It's faster than a walk but slower than a canter or gallop. Trotting is common in horse racing, training, and riding because it allows for smooth, controlled movement while maintaining good speed and balance. The trot can be performed in harness racing with horses pulling carts or on horseback during riding exercises.
