Trobairitz

Trobairitz were female poets and musicians from the Occitan-speaking regions of medieval Southern France, active during the 12th and 13th centuries. They were part of the courtly culture that celebrated love and chivalry, often expressing their emotions through lyric poetry. Trobairitz wrote in the Occitan language, similar to their male counterparts, the troubadours, and contributed to the development of courtly love traditions. Their works, although less numerous than those of troubadours, highlight the voices of women in a male-dominated society, showcasing themes of love, desire, and personal experience.
