Triune Brain Theory

The Triune Brain Theory suggests that our brain evolved in three stages, resulting in three interconnected parts. The oldest, the reptilian brain, controls basic instincts like survival and territorial behavior. The middle, the limbic system, handles emotions, memories, and social bonds. The newest, the neocortex, manages higher functions like reasoning, language, and problem-solving. This model explains how different brain areas contribute to behavior—basic instincts, emotional responses, and complex thought—showing our behavior is shaped by a combination of primitive and advanced brain functions working together.
