Tripeptidyl peptidase I
Tripeptidyl peptidase I (also called TPP1) is an enzyme that helps break down proteins in the body by trimming small pieces called peptides. It specifically removes three amino acids from the start of certain peptides inside cells, aiding in recycling and proper cellular function. TPP1 is most active in the lysosomes, which are compartments responsible for waste processing. Proper TPP1 activity is essential for maintaining healthy cells, and deficiencies can lead to neurological disorders such as late-infantile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis (CLN2 disease).
