Tribunal Penal International pour le Rwanda (TPIR)
The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR or TPIR) was a court established by the United Nations in 1994 to prosecute those responsible for the Rwandan genocide and related war crimes. Its goal was to deliver justice for the mass atrocities committed during the 1994 genocide, where hundreds of thousands of people, mainly Tutsi plus moderate Hutus, were killed. Operating until 2015, the tribunal tried individuals for serious crimes like genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes, helping to promote accountability and reinforce international law on such crimes.
