Trevithick's steam carriage
Trevithick's steam carriage, developed in the early 19th century, was an early experimental vehicle powered by a steam engine. It used hot steam generated in a boiler to move pistons connected to wheels, enabling the carriage to tow loads along roads. Unlike earlier, less practical steam-powered devices, Trevithick's design was innovative because it was relatively lightweight and could operate on existing roads. Although it was not widely adopted for transportation, it demonstrated the potential of steam power for land vehicles and laid groundwork for future development in locomotion technology.
