Trelawny Maroons

The Trelawny Maroons are descendants of enslaved Africans who escaped from plantations in Jamaica’s Trelawny Parish during the 18th century. They established independent communities in the mountains, resisting British colonial rule and maintaining their culture, language, and customs. Known for their strength, independence, and guerrilla warfare tactics, the Trelawny Maroons played a significant role in Jamaica’s history of resistance. Today, they are recognized as a cultural group that preserves their unique heritage and history of resistance against colonization and slavery.
