Treaty of Wedmore
The Treaty of Wedmore, signed in 878, was an agreement between King Alfred the Great of Wessex and the Viking leader Guthrum. Following a series of battles, this treaty established boundaries between the Saxons and the Danes, marking a significant moment in England's early medieval history. Guthrum and his men were to settle in East Anglia, while acknowledging Alfred's authority. The treaty also led to a peaceful coexistence and the eventual Christianization of the Viking rulers, facilitating greater cultural exchange between Saxons and Danes.
