Treaty of Uxbridge

The Treaty of Uxbridge, signed in 1745, was an agreement aiming to resolve the conflict of the Jacobite uprising in Britain, led by Charles Edward Stuart (“Bonnie Prince Charlie”). It was an attempt to negotiate peace between the Jacobites, who wanted to restore the Stuart monarchy, and the British government. However, the treaty ultimately failed because the two sides could not agree on terms, and fighting resumed. The treaty’s failure led to the final defeat of the Jacobites at the Battle of Culloden, ending their hopes of restoring the Stuarts to the British throne.
