Treaty of Pune

The Treaty of Pune, signed in 1842, was an agreement between the British East India Company and the Peshwa of Pune, marking the end of the First Anglo-Maratha War. Under the treaty, the Peshwa surrendered parts of territory and accepted British authority, reducing his personal power and influence. It effectively brought the Maratha Empire under indirect British control, securing British dominance in western India. This treaty was a step in establishing British supremacy in India, leading to further expansion and consolidation of their rule across the subcontinent.
