Treaty of Montgomery
The Treaty of Montgomery, signed in 1267, was an agreement between the English crown and several Welsh princes, notably Llywelyn ap Gruffudd. It recognized Llywelyn's authority over Welsh territories and granted him certain rights, including the return of some lands and some independence within Wales. However, it also reaffirmed English overlordship under King Henry III. The treaty marked a temporary peace, but tensions continued, and full Welsh independence was not achieved. It is considered a significant step in Welsh history, representing both acknowledgment of Welsh leadership and the ongoing struggle for autonomy from England.
