Treaty claims

Treaty claims are legal arguments made when a group, often Indigenous peoples, believes their rights or interests—such as land or resources—were not properly honored or protected under historical agreements like treaties. These claims seek recognition, remedies, or compensation for breaches or unfulfilled promises made in those treaties. Essentially, they address past injustices by asserting that the government or other parties did not fulfill their obligations, aiming to restore rights or provide appropriate redress.
