Tratado de Tordesilhas

The Treaty of Tordesillas, signed in 1494, was an agreement between Spain and Portugal to divide newly discovered lands outside Europe along a meridian, roughly 370 leagues west of the Cape Verde Islands. This division aimed to resolve conflicts over emerging explorations and colonization rights. Spain received rights to most of the Americas, while Portugal gained control over territories in Africa, Asia, and later Brazil. The treaty significantly shaped the political map of the world, influencing colonial boundaries and the spread of cultures, languages, and influence for centuries.
