TRAP (enzyme)
TRAP, or tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase, is an enzyme produced mainly by certain immune cells called osteoclasts, which are involved in breaking down bone tissue. Despite its name, TRAP is resistant to inhibition by tartrate, a substance that affects similar enzymes. It plays a role in normal bone remodeling and immune responses. Clinically, TRAP levels are measured as markers for bone diseases like osteoporosis and certain bone-related conditions, helping doctors assess bone activity and disease progression.
