Transylvanian Principality

The Transylvanian Principality was a historical region located in what is now central Romania, historically part of the larger Hungarian Kingdom. From the 16th to 18th centuries, it functioned as a semi-autonomous principality under the suzerainty of the Ottoman Empire, with its own ruler and government, but paying tribute to the Ottomans. It was known for its diverse population, including Romanians, Hungarians, Saxons, and others, and played a significant role in regional politics, culture, and trade during that period. In 1711, it officially became part of the Habsburg Empire, shaping its subsequent history.
