transvaginal cerclage
A transvaginal cerclage is a medical procedure used to prevent preterm birth in women with a weak or incompetent cervix. During the procedure, a surgeon places a special stitch around the cervix through the vagina to keep it closed, supporting the pregnancy as the baby develops. It is typically done between the 12th and 14th weeks of pregnancy and is removed near the end of pregnancy or when labor begins. This procedure helps reduce the risk of early birth or pregnancy loss when cervical weakness is identified.
