Transvaal

Transvaal was a region in northeastern South Africa, historically known for its rich mineral resources, especially gold and diamonds. It was initially a Boer republic established by Dutch settlers in the 19th century and became part of British-controlled South Africa in 1902 after the Anglo-Boer War. The name "Transvaal"means "beyond the river" in Dutch, referring to its location east of the Vaal River. Today, Transvaal is divided into several provinces, with Gauteng being the most prominent, known as South Africa’s economic hub due to its mining and industrial activities.
