Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA)

Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA) is a congenital heart condition where the two main arteries carrying blood from the heart are switched in position. Normally, the aorta carries oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the body, and the pulmonary artery carries oxygen-poor blood to the lungs. In TGA, these arteries are reversed, causing oxygen-rich blood to circulate improperly and depriving the body of oxygen. This results in poor oxygen delivery, which is life-threatening unless corrected. Treatment typically involves surgery soon after birth to reconfigure the arteries and restore normal blood flow.
