Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI)

The Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI) is a regional effort among several U.S. northeastern and mid-Atlantic states to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation, which is a major contributor to climate change. It aims to achieve this by establishing a cap on emissions from fuels used for transportation, then auctioning permits to fuel suppliers. The revenue generated is reinvested into programs that promote cleaner transportation alternatives, such as public transit, electric vehicles, and biking infrastructure, helping reduce pollution, improve air quality, and support a sustainable transportation future.
