Transmission-Based Precautions

Transmission-Based Precautions are extra safety measures used in healthcare to prevent the spread of infections from patient to others. They are implemented when a patient has or is suspected to have an infectious disease. These precautions include specific practices such as wearing protective gear (like gloves, masks, or gowns), isolating the patient in a designated area, and practicing strict hand hygiene. They are used in addition to standard precautions to target how particular infections spread—by contact, droplets, or airborne particles—helping protect both healthcare workers and other patients from getting sick.
