Transliteration

Transliteration is the process of converting words from one writing system into another, while preserving the original pronunciation as closely as possible. Instead of translating meaning, it focuses on representing the sounds of the original language using a different alphabet or script. For example, writing the Hindi word “नमस्ते” as “Namaste” using the Latin alphabet allows speakers unfamiliar with Devanagari to approximate how it sounds. This technique helps people read and pronounce words from foreign languages more easily without understanding their meaning, making cross-language communication more accessible.
