Transition Region
The transition region is a thin, specialized layer in the Sun's atmosphere located between the cooler chromosphere and the extremely hot corona. In this area, temperatures rapidly rise from about 10,000°C to over a million°C. It acts as a transitional zone where the physical properties change dramatically, allowing energy to flow into the corona. Understanding this region helps scientists learn how the Sun heats its outer atmosphere and influences space weather, which can affect satellites and Earth's technology. Despite being very thin, the transition region plays a crucial role in solar physics and the Sun’s overall behavior.
