Transit Police (New York City Transit Authority Police)

The Transit Police, officially the New York City Transit Authority Police, was a specialized law enforcement agency responsible for maintaining safety and security on the subway and bus systems in New York City. Their officers enforced transit laws, assisted passengers, and responded to emergencies within the transit system. In 1995, the Transit Police merged with the NYPD, and their duties are now handled by specialized units within the larger police department, ensuring integrated policing and comprehensive public safety across all city services.
