Transfusion-Transmitted Infection

A Transfusion-Transmitted Infection (TTI) occurs when an infection is unknowingly passed to someone through a blood transfusion. When blood is donated, it can carry bacteria, viruses, or parasites that may cause illness. To prevent TTIs, blood is carefully tested and screened before transfusion. Despite advances, there is still a small risk that an infection can be transmitted during the process. People receiving transfusions are monitored for signs of infection, and healthcare providers take precautions to minimize this risk. TTIs highlight the importance of rigorous testing and safety measures in blood transfusion practices.
